If I told you I'm walking 60 miles for 3 days to help women with undetected breast cancer find out early enough to survive, would you support me?
This is my first time walking in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day. It's very inspiring to see all the survivors coming back and walking 60 miles. What a statement against breast cancer! I'm walking for all the women who can't - and for all the women who have breast cancer right now and don't even know it.
I will be walking with almost 4,000 other people, rain or shine, 60 miles in 3 days. I'll be sleeping in a tent, eating and drinking on the walk, will have no electricity and will be using port-a-potties for 3 days! I've also committed to raising at least $1900 by May 3rd. I need your help emotionally and financially to reach these goals!
I'd like to share with you a few of the startling statistics from the American Cancer Society that have really touched my heart:
1,000,000 women in American are living with undetected breast cancer.
In American this year, a new case of breast cancer will be diagnosed every 3 minutes. Every 13 minutes, the disease will claim another life.
Over 182,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and over 40,000 will die. Most of them (80%) won't have any genetic predisposition to the disease.
These are a few of the reasons I'm walking so far. I'm walking for all the women who's lives breast cancer has claimed and for the loved ones they were forced to leave behind. I'm walking for my daughters, my mothers, my grandmothers, sisters, aunts, nieces, friends - in the hopes that they might not have to fear dying from breast cancer and maybe someday not even have to know that such a terrifying disease existed.
1 out of every 9 women in America will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. That's up from 1 out of 14 in 1960.
There is a 100% chance you will know her..... I don't want to wait to find out what woman in my life that will be.
